FAQ

Who can join?

Those with a major or minor in Criminal Justice, Psychology, Forensics, Homeland Security, or Victimology are eligible to join. You also cannot be graduating the same semester as your rookie semester.

When can I join?

Recruitment begins at the beginning of each long semester. (Fall and Spring)

What do I need?

In order to become elligible you must have one of the required majors or minors, a 2.75 SHSU cumulative GPA, and 3.00 required major/minor GPA. You must maintain these GPA's in order to continue as a member.

First semester freshmen do not need to turn in a GPA since they are not provided an SHSU GPA yet.

What are the requirements?

Please refer to the 'Members' tab and select 'Become a Member' to get a full understanding of our requirements.

How much is it?

General members: $105

Potential members dues are $135. The $30 difference from the members provides you with a T-shirt for your rookie class with all of the rookies names and recruiter.

Why should I join?

LAE provides a professional insight into the field of criminal justice. You will have the opportunity to experience activities that are not taught in classrooms. You will also get to network with professionals that you would not meet outside of LAE. In addition, you will be able to meet some amazing students who have the same interests.

When are the meetings?

Meetings are held every single Tuesday.

General membership meets at 8:00 pm

Potential members meet at 9:00 pm

What if I have class during a meeting or social?

If you are not available to make required events under any circumstance please reach out to  an executive board member (President, Vice President, Treasurer, Sgt. at Arms, or Secretary) or the recruiter ASAP.

What if I do not get in?

If you are not accepted into LAE-Delta Chi then you are eligible to reapply after one long semester.

Ex: If you go through the process and get denied in Fall 2019, then you are not eligible to reapply until Fall 2020.

What do I do if I am having a problem with a member?

If at any point you feel bullied, harassed, uncomfortable, or hazed by any potential or member please report it to the Sgt. at Arms immediately! Do not hesitate to report it. Either executive board, advisors, or membership committee will handle the situation discretely and appropriately.

What if someone has a question I do not know how to answer regarding LAE?

For any further questions please ask your recruiter or an executive board member.

Presidents email

What if I cannot make an event I signed up for?

If you cannot make a Delta-Chi event you signed up for then you must notify the corresponding committee head one hour minimum before the event. If it is an away trip, guest speaker, or you notify last minute, then you will be docked one delta chi hour.

Can I use the LAE-Delta Chi letters?

Potential members are not allowed to wear or use the organization letters "LAE-Delta Chi" until they are inducted at informal or formal.

How do I end my process if I choose to not continue?

If you decide LAE is not the organization for you then please message the recruiter and the Sgt. at Arms. This way we can keep a record of who is a member at large and who is not.

What are oral boards?

An oral board is where you are interviewed in order to get into the organization. You will be asked a series of questions relating to the provided study guide, personality questions, and hypothetical situations that relate to your future career.

Does LAE have a cord for graduation?

Yes! LAE-Delta Chi provides all graduating members, who have paid their dues, with a stole that has the organization letters.

What do I wear to the meetings?

The first meeting of every month both potential and general members must wear business professional attire. Any other time, you must dress business casual.
